Omotesandō Level 3

Oil on Canvas.

LIMITED EDITION of 10 copies.

I looked for ways to capture the architectural pattern of Omotesandō.  My observation focused on the transformation of the house types over last century. This has resulted in smaller property sizes, narrower distances between buildings, the disappearance of quasi- exterior space (such as engawa and nokishita, where inhabitants could spend time outside of the house), smaller facade openings, and greater isolation for single families. These geometric forms represent footprints of different house typologies of Omotesandō and a possibility to make a fourth-generation house more tolerant while simultaneously taking advantage of current advances. Omotesandō diagrams are a series of 6 different levels. They represent a three dimensional permutation of 5 elements and relations of a partial ordering.
